Selected Poems of Emily Dickinson by Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) Emily Dickinson has come to be regarded as one of the quintessential poets of 19th century America. A very private poet with a very quiet and reclusive life, her poetry was published posthumously and immediately found a wide audience. While she echoed the romantic natural themes of her times, her style was much more free and irregular, causing many to criticize her and editors to “correct” her. In the early 20th century, when poetic style had become much looser, new audiences learned to appreciate her work. Here collected are many of her most contemplative, most rebellious, and “dark” works, expressing her frustrations with the behavioral confines of her times, and the confines of being human and unknowing of eternity. Alighieri Dante breve biografia Dante Alighieri (1265-1321) nasce a Firenze, da una famiglia di piccola nobiltà e di modeste rendite. La sua attività di poeta comincia nei primi anni ottanta e un contributo notevole a questa sua attività gli deriva dalla sua amicizia con Cavalcanti; dalla conoscenza di Brunetto Latini ricavò l'esempio di una attività poetica impegnata filosoficamente e politicamente. Nella sua prima opera, la "Vita Nuova", ricorda e celebra l'amore per Beatrice, morta nel 1290. Nel 1300 ricopre la carica di priore, cercando di opporsi alle mire temporali del papato per difendere l'autonomia del comune, mosso da spirito di giustizia e da una tensione rigoristico-francescana contro il potere della chiesa.Viene esiliato nel 1302, in seguito al trionfo della fazione nera dei guelfi. Durante l'esilio si colloca il resto della sua produzione tra cui la "Commedia": poema sacro, frutto allo stesso tempo di ingegno immaginativo e di forza realistica; straordinaria sintesi delle sue esperienze letterarie e politiche e delle sue convinzioni.
