Picasa 3.5 has name tags and uses the same technology that powers name tags on Picasa Web Albums. With name tags, you can organize your photos based on what matters most: the people in them.

Et c'est aujourd'hui que le miracle tant attendu est arrivé. Sur la page d'accueil de Picasaweb, un bouton "taguer mes photos" est maintenant présent (ou bientôt, cela dépend des comptes visiblement). En cliquant dessus, Google va scanner et analyser toutes les photos de tous vos albums, pour tenter d'y reconnaître et regrouper les visages d'une même personnes. Et le moins que l'on puisse dire, c'est que ça marche ! Attention, à titre d'indication, scanner 2600 visages prend environ 30 minutes à Picasaweb. Vous pouvez toutefois continuer à surfer pendant que l'analyse progresse.

On ne sait que peu de choses pour le moment mais la reconnaissance faciale ferait son apparition (comme nous vous l'annoncions il y a quelques temps). Il sera alors possible de marquer quelques photos avec les noms de proches et amis, puis Picasa se chargera ensuite de trouver les autres photos avec ces même personnes...

Il y a deux autres nouveautés qui ne sont présentement disponibles qu’aux États-Unis. La première vous permet de tagger vos vidéos, photos et albums et la seconde intègre un engin de recherche sur Picasa Album Web
