by Monique

YouTube API Blog: Flash and the HTML5 video tag

by srcmax & 1 other

There's been a lot of discussion lately about whether or not the HTML5 video tag is going to replace Flash Player for video distribution on the web. We’ve been excited about the HTML5 effort and video tag for quite a while now, and most YouTube videos can now be played via our HTML5 player. This work has shown us that, while the video tag is a big step forward for open standards, the Adobe Flash Platform will continue to play a critical role in video distribution.

Kaltura & HTML5 « HTML5 Video

by Spone
Kaltura has developed a full HTML5 Video Library – in use by Wikipedia – that works in ALL major browsers, even IE. The library supports a seamless fallback with Flash based playback (using Kaltura’s media player – KDP3) or Java Cortado for browsers that don’t yet feature HTML5 video & audio support. Upon detection of the client browser, the Kaltura HTML5 library chooses the right codec to use (specified in the source attributes) and the right player to display. So whether you’re using flash, h264, ogg-theora or plan to use the anticipated VP8 codec – Kaltura’s library will make sure it is played on all browsers with the same html based UI.

The Gradual Disappearance Of Flash Websites - Smashing Magazine

by ghis & 2 others (via)
If you want to “go big” visually with a website, delivering complex interaction and a rich experience across a wide range of browsers, Flash is the only way to go. Right? Nope. Given the widespread adoption and advancements of modern browsers and JavaScript libraries, using Flash makes little sense. But it does have its place on the Web, considering the need for progressive enhancement.

HumbleFinance is an HTML5 data visualization tool written as a demonstration of interactive graphing in HTML5. It is similar to the Flash tool on http://finance.google.com/. The tool itself is written entirely in JavaScript, using the Prototype and Flotr libraries. It can be used to display any two 2-D data sets of real numerical data which share an axis.

Firefox esseulé face au H.264

by srcmax
