These rants started appearing six months later (in Dec 2005) on sites like del.icio.us and reddit. People have been debating and discussing them as if they're a set of papal bulls, and drawing all sorts of silly conclusions about me and the articles. This isn't their fault. This recipe describes how to set up a simple HTTP server supporting SSL secure communications. It extends the SimpleHTTPServer standard module to support the SSL protocol. With this recipe, only the server is authenticated while the client remains unauthenticated (i.e. the server will not request a client certificate from the browser).
