Book review of Designing the Obvious: A Common Sense Approach to Web Application Design by Robert Hoekman Jr.

CSS recently celebrated its 10th birthday (whoa, it’s been that long huh?) and released a list of sites that has made an impact for CSS. From their site, “sites that promoted CSS, teached CSS, marked important dates, or simply used CSS in unexpected ways” received mention at the CSS10 Hall of Fame. Here’s the list with a brief review of each.

If you watched the 2002 movie 40 Days and 40 Nights, you will know that the character Josh Hartnett plays is a web designer. Yes, a web designer in a Dot Com company. That has led me to the question, “What other major movies have characters portraying web designers?”

The Web Designer has probably been around for over ten years now. But with all the developments this year alone, what does the Web Designer have to be and do in the coming year to able to stay relevant in the I.T. industry?

I’ll make this clear from the start: I’m really a Dreamweaver guy. But with all the posturing Microsoft has been doing on the web design/development against Adobe lately, I can’t help but be curious about what the Expression Web Designer can offer the web designer. Does MS Expression Web Designer have the goods to sway the Dreamweaver crowd?

Is Web Design a viable career these days?
