Screenfont.CA is an activity of the Open & Closed Project. We are researching and developing a set of standards for captioning, audio description, subtitling, and dubbing.
Screenfonts are important because, in captioning and subtitling, our instrument is typography.

Subtitle Editor

Subtitle Editor is a GTK 2 tool to edit subtitles for GNU/Linux/*BSD. It can be used for new subtitles or as a tool to transform, edit, correct and refine existing subtitle. This program also shows sound waves, which makes it easier to synchronise subtitles to voices.
Subtitle Editor is free software released under the GNU General Public License (GPL3).

Le format Srt est reconnu par la plupart des lecteurs Divx (y compris les lecteurs de salon).
D-Subtitler accepte deux types de source : les fichiers VOB et les dossiers VIDEO TS.

One thing that has been annoying me for ages is that no video player on the web allows you to write comments for a specific time in the video that get displayed as plain text. Viddler allows you to comment at a certain time and it appears in the video, but the benefits of time based captioning both in terms of accessibility and SEO didn’t quite transpire to any video site maintainers yet. Edit: Darn, I hadn’t looked at Viddler for a long time, it actually does this now, well done!

La fonction de sous-titre permet à ceux qui regardent votre vidéo d'en avoir une meilleure compréhension. L'ajout de légendes et de sous-titres rend vos vidéos plus accessibles aux utilisateurs qui ne disposent pas du son, soit du fait qu'ils parlent une autre langue, soient parce qu'ils sont sourds ou malentendants.

Time Well Wasted - Getting Subtitles on your Playstation 3

So I suppose I let others know how to get subtitles to play on your PS3.
1. Get a free copy of AVIAddXSubs. This will create a DIVX file of the movie and encode the subtitles into the files also. It doesn’t recode the video, and it takes about a minute or two to create it.
2. Now the latest firmware update on the PS3 was supposed to let you play DIVX files, but for some reason my PS3 was saying the file was Unsupported. I found out that TVersity will overcome that hurdle. So I downloaded it. A nice program too. It has several TV shows you can watch too.
3. When the PS3 starts playing the movie, you just press the Triangle button to display the menu and select the Subtitle option. Select the language and you’re done! If the subtitle files you used were functioning that is.
