Product pricing, channel discounts and packaging are a bit confusing. Licensing is on either a per-CPU or per-seat basis. An upgrade to the full Sonic SOA Suite adds Sonic Orchestration Server, Sonic XML Server and Sonic Database Service to the mix. Sonic’s SOA Suite is priced at $35,000 per CPU. Most organizations will find the rich functionality of these additional products compelling. Certainly, they make the offering from Sonic as close to an “SOA-out-of-the-box” as you can get in today’s market.

This most recent report, which evaluates the top ESB vendors using 100 criteria, cites Cape Clear Software as a leader in the Enterprise Service Bus space

It appears as though the Apache ESB project, Synapse, is moving forward. According to InternetNews, Blue Titan, Infravio, WSO2, Sonic and Iona are all supporting it.

While some of its rivals have descended into a puerile debate about who was first, Sonic Software is showing admirable maturity in its handling of ESB evolution. But will it follow through to the logical conclusion and leave the acronym behind?
