O driver básico deve ter sido detectado e instalado na instalação do sistema. Para ver ser tá ok edite o arquivo: /etc/X11/xorg.conf Procure a secção de video, é mais para baixo do meio e a linha driver "ATI-qualquer coisa" O driver está entre haspas nesses arquivo texto. Se você for mexer nesse arquivo faça back up, pois se algo der errado a parte gráfica não entra mais. Boa sorte.
