Scraper Site Clearout Collateral Damage?

(via)
It seems like google has purged many scraper sites from the google serps, as per this thread: http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum30/30530-2-10.htm I'm sure many people, including myself are very, very pleased about this as it stops scumbag sites from stealing our content. However, it also appears that some non-scraper sites have been included in this purge (including my own). My site has been active for 5 years and is based on unique content. Has anyone else been effected by this, and does google intend to refine the algorithm to stop valid, unique content sites from falling victim?

Ask Jeeves Blog: MyJeeves 1.2: To Tag Or Not To Tag…

(via)
Many people think tagging provides an elegant paradigm of organizing information. In addition, we're starting to see the "power of many" being leveraged to build fancy stuff like shared folksonomies where you plug your personal information sphere into the collective mindset. Having sat through half a dozen usability tests for MyJeeves, however, it is pretty clear to me that foldering is a more intuitive way of organizing, especially to those new to the exciting world of personal information management. Foldering may be clunky, but it's how people think - at least that's how they think today. Maybe it's because we are naturally wired that way, or maybe it's because most of us grew up with Windows. What is certain is that after a while, most users end up with an unmanageable folder hierarchy and start losing track of where things are. What can be done to take users out of this frustrating mess? Or more exactly, assuming that tagging is indeed one solution, how can we help users to transition from folders to tags, or at least add tagging to their repetoire? When we were scoping MyJeeves 1.2 a while back, this was the topic of endless coffee talks…and one or two beer talks.

AJAX: Usable Interactivity with Remote Scripting [JavaScript & DHTML Tutorials]

by 12 others (via)
If your bookmarks contain even one Web development blog, you'll undoubtedly know that remote scripting is being touted as the new "future of the Web". Although I get the feeling that a few people are perhaps a little over-excited about it, the recent release of numerous high-profile Web applications that use remote scripting has shown that there are definite advantages to utilising these techniques in the creation of seamless Web applications, and to augment Web page functionality.

Five Ways To Block SPAM -= www.bigbruin.com =-

(via)
Spam is one of those things that nobody wants, but probably has plenty of. If there happens to be anyone out there unfamiliar with spam, we are not talking about the luncheon meat, but the unsolicited, junk e-mail that clogs our inboxes. And in case you are curious, according to some sources, the junk mail version of spam earned its name from a Monty Python skit regarding the luncheon meat of the same name. Care to sing along?

What are blogs anyway? A blog is a regularly updated website consisting of regular article postings. Links to and from other blogs and traditional websites are a prominent feature of most blogs. A blog tends to be focussed on a single topic or issue, and usually invites comments from readers on the posted articles, starting a conversation between writer (called a blogger) and the readers. A blog usually reflects the personality of the writer, and is most often written in a personal and informal style.

Mozilla Update :: Extensions -- More Info:Bookmark Tags - All Releases

(via)
This version works with Firefox 1.0.4 to Deer Park Alpha 2. KNOWN BUGS: Tagging a bookmark with too many tags can cause Firefox to crash or stall because of the fact that as many bookmark copies are created as there are permutations of its tags. Firefox then becomes slow on start up and shut down, and it seems the only way to fix it is to uninstall Bookmark Tags. This behavior is completely unacceptable. Expect a revamp of Bookmark Tags in the next version. In the meantime, please don't tag bookmarks with more than three or four tags. BUG FIXES: Pernicious Linux bug eliminated; Livemarks can now be properly tagged; support for Deer Park Alpha 2.
