Determining a unit of measurement to size our text can be a topic of heated debate, even in this day and age. Unfortunately, there are still various pros and cons that make the various techniques less desirable. It's just a matter of which less-desirable is most desirable.
There are two main techniques that are extolled:
Size with px
Size with em
Let's review these two approaches before I reveal the magical third.

OK, plongeons-nous dans les ems. Je vais vous montrer, en partant de zéro, comment dimensionner le texte d'un document en ems. Je présuppose cependant que nous aurons affaire à un navigateur configuré en taille de texte « medium ». La taille par défaut pour le texte « medium » dans tous les navigateurs modernes est de 16px. Notre premier pas est donc de réduire cette taille, pour tout le document, en fixant la taille de caractères du body à 62.5% ::

This is why I used nested EMs on the Technorati tag cloud markup. Only requires CSS1 selectors - works like a charm in IE. Even if you can't count how many EMs there are, the CSS selectors can.
