The SHERPA/RoMEO Application Programmers' Interface (API) is a machine-to-machine interface that lets programmers access SHERPA/RoMEO data from their applications. For instance, you could use the API to incorporate an automatic look-up of a journal or publisher into your repository's deposition process.

One of the key features is that it's clever enough to automatically extract the citation details (title, author, journal name, page number, etc) from an article on the web without you having to copy and paste them in yourself. To do this, it uses an extensible architecture of "plugins" which are responsible for taking a URL, fetching whatever details might be required, and then returning them in a consistent format which can be used by the system.

Solvitur Ambulando (Bess) a été invité à une journée par OCLC où on leur a exposé un projet d’ouvrir des Web Services (API XML) sur les bases OCLC. Quand on voit la liste des services envisagés on tombe à la renverse (mais comme dit Bess, pour l’instant c’est une annonce, rien n’est très précis, il faut voir…).
