6 août 1943 - 16 octobre 1998 Il est l'un des principaux contributeurs à la création d' Internet. Jon Postel a obtenu son doctorat d'informatique en 1974. Il était l'éditeur de la série de documents visant à établir des standards sur Internet (les RFC, Request For Comments) de l'IETF. Il a apporté une très importante contribution à la création du protocole de communication TCP/IP utilisé notamment sur Internet et dans la plupart des réseaux locaux d'aujourd'hui, décrit dans les RFC 791 à 793. Il était le premier membre de l'Internet Society et le responsable de l'IANA, l'organisation gérant l'allocation des adresses IP sur Internet. Il est mort à la suite de complications d'une opération du cœur en 1998.

Lawrence Lessig

Lawrence Lessig is a Professor of Law at Stanford Law School and founder of the school's Center for Internet and Society. Prior to joining the Stanford faculty, he was the Berkman Professor of Law at Harvard Law School, and a Professor at the University of Chicago. He clerked for Judge Richard Posner on the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals and Justice Antonin Scalia on the United States Supreme Court. Professor Lessig represented web site operator Eric Eldred in the ground-breaking case Eldred v. Ashcroft, a challenge to the 1998 Sonny Bono Copyright Term Extension Act. He has won numerous awards, including the Free Software Foundation's Freedom Award, and was named one of Scientific American's Top 50 Visionaries, for arguing "against interpretations of copyright that could stifle innovation and discourse online." Professor Lessig is the author of Free Culture (2004), The Future of Ideas (2001) and Code and Other Laws of Cyberspace (1999). He chairs the Creative Commons project, and serves on the board of the Free Software Foundation, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, the Public Library of Science, and Public Knowledge. Professor Lessig earned a BA in economics and a BS in management from the University of Pennsylvania, an MA in philosophy from Cambridge, and a JD from Yale. Professor Lessig teaches and writes in the areas of constitutional law, contracts, and the law of cyberspace.

Nam June Paik

C’est en mars 1963 que Nam June Paik dans l'exposition "of Music/Electronic Television" à la galerie Parnass de Wuppertal, présenta pour la première fois dans l’ histoire des arts visuels une oeuvre d'art dont le matériau était l'image électronique : treize téléviseurs préparés selon treize modalités différentes. Il s’agissait pour Paik d’une tentative de créer une nouvelle peinture abstraite et en mouvement en recourant à des procédés électroniques. Cette oeuvre ouvrit de façon manifeste le champ de l’art à l’image électronique. En mai 1963, Wolf Vostell exposait à la galerie Smolin de New York l’environnement intitulé "6 TV Dé-coll/ages". Cette oeuvre, dans laquelle six téléviseurs présentaient chacun une forme d’anomalie étendait le médium à des visées directement sociologiques. Depuis 1958, il avait fait de la télévision un symbole à subvertir.
