Xfce - Features

Xfce Features Xfce provides a lightweight desktop environment with a desktop manager drawing a wallpaper and allowing you to have icons on your desktop, a panel with numerous plugins, a standard compliant window manager with a compositing manager, a settings manager to customize your desktop environment, a modern and easy to use file manager and a session manager which allows you to save the current session, autostart applications, shutdown, reboot, suspend or hibernate your computer. Xfce also provides common applications, designed for the best user experience. Among those applications are: a text editor, a sound mixer which supports multiple sound cards, an application finder to launch your applications in an easy way, an image viewer, a modern terminal emulator, an iCal based calendar to manage events and appointments and a CD and DVD burning application. Many additionnal features are also provided by the Goodies project: a Web browser, plugins for the panel and the file manager, standalone applications such as a dictionnary, a tasks manager, a power manager, a screenshooter, a notification daemon..

News: Xfld 0.3 released Today, 29.10.2006, Oliver Schweissgut has announced the release of Xfld 0.3: The os-cillation team is happy to announce the release of Xfld 0.3. Xfld is a live demo for the Xfce desktop environment in the upcomming version 4.4. Xfld boots from CD-ROM and provides a complete GNU/Linux operating environment without the need to install anything. The new release features applications and tools like * Xfce 4.4rc1 with Thunar and goodies * OpenOffice 2.0.4 * Gimp 2.2.13 * Firefox 2.0 * Thunderbird 1.5 * abiword 2.4.5 * Wireshark 0.99.3a * gaim 2.0.0+beta3 * Ruby, Python and Perl * :: complete list... Xfld 0.3 is now based on Ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy) instead of plain debian as before. Debian Live Project

A Debian Live system is a Debian operating system that does not require a classical installer to use it. It comes on various media, including CD-ROM, USB sticks, or via netboot. Why Debian Live? Although the Debian Live project is about the framework to create your own customized Live system, we offer some prebuilt images. Currently, builds for three desktop environments (GNOME, KDE and Xfce) as well as the standard system are available.
