I looked everywhere for these icons. Turns out, they were on my machine all along, burried deep inside. I extracted each icon and threw them on a sheet in Illustrator for easy access. Each icon is sized proportionally so when you drag one into Photoshop as a smart object the icon defaults to it's actual size. A while ago I researched out of curiosity if it was possible to build fonts with embedded colour bitmaps like the Apple Color Emoji font on Mac OS 10.7/10.8. I figured out the «sbix» table format and wrote some code that can be hooked into the Python FontTools to decompile and compile the sbix table which contains the image data.

A few days ago we lifted the curtains on a project I’ve been deep into for a long time now: GitHub for Mac. This is the first OS X app I’ve designed and thought it might be interesting to share some of the process and things I learned throughout development.

Share iCal Calendars on your LAN With BusySync it's incredibly easy to share iCal calendars with family or coworkers on your LAN without the need for a dedicated server. BusySync is a Mac OS X System Preference Pane that runs in the background and adds calendar sharing capabilities to iCal. You don’t have to be a movie buff to appreciate a good foreign film, but unless you know the language, you will need to watch with subtitles. Adding them to your movies, TV shows and video files can be fairly easy, and you have a few options to do so. The file format of the video usually doesn’t matter when it comes to adding subtitles, but naturally, playback is another story depending on how and where you want to watch it. If you’ve got a film that doesn’t have any subtitles at all, you can usually find them at websites like MovieSubtitles.org and AllSubs.org or by simply checking through a search engine. Subtitle file formats are typically found in .srt, .sub, .ssa, .ass and MicroDVD, and all of them should work with the options that I’ll outline here.
