The SRW/U Open Source project offers software that implements both the SRW Web Service and the SRU REST model interface to databases. Included are interfaces that support DSpace's Lucene implementation and OCLC's Pears and Newton databases.

CQL: the Contextual Query Language: Specifications (SRU: Search/Retrieval via URL, Standards, Library of Congress)
(via)CQL, the Contextual Query Language, is a formal language for representing queries to information retrieval systems such as web indexes, bibliographic catalogs and museum collection information. The design objective is that queries be human readable and writable, and that the language be intuitive while maintaining the expressiveness of more complex languages.
