Ever since the HTML5 footer has been redefined I have changed the markup of http://www.miekd.com/

At the current stage, the validator has still not been updated to

match this spec change. I am aware of the giant draft/beta sticker on

the validator, but I would really love to have an up-to-date validator.

Sounds like you want a DTD or XML Schema that you can edit to your satisfaction.

Et lui, on dirait qu'il est resté dans sa grotte pendant 10 ans et qu'il n'a jamais vu XHTML M12N. En même temps, c'est un peu le cas de tous les HTML 5 fanboyz.

So I’ve tended to be plain accepting that HTML 5 will be whatever it is, and if its bad its bad because of Hickson and a certain crowd. I have no power to affect the obsessive thoughts of certain individuals one way or the other. I’m also probably representative of quite a large group of the silent disenchanted who will continue to code in HTML 4 or XHTML 1 well into the future and fight on building websites in whatever tag soup monstrosity we are burdened with on the day.

HTML 5 est "community driven", ce qui concrètement signifie que seuls ceux qui ont la capacité de travailler à plein temps dessus ont une petite chance de faire entendre une voix différente de la WTF. Mais de toute façon, vu comme c'est parti, HTML 5 finira en browser-sniffing (ou "feature detection" comme on dit aujourd'hui), ce qui en fait déjà un échec immense.

In most cases, the answer is HTML5. XHTML5 doesn’t work in IE. (Just like technical XHTML has never worked in IE. Only the marketing kind of XHTML has worked in IE.)

I did notice however several mentions of the "HTML5 standard" that led me to write this post to remind the community of the current status of the specification, both in practice and on the standards track.. HTML5 isn't a W3C standard. We certainly look forward to the day when it is, but it isn't yet. In fact, the specification, co-authored by Ian Hickson from Google, is still very much a work in progress.

Rappelons que HTML5 est le format "sérialisé à la SGML" du document, pour le standard on devrait écrire HTML 5 (mais Google a plus de mal à le trouver dans ce cas). Et Hickson nous rappelle dans les commentaires comment il peut être pragmatique (cf. hier).

I’m just a spectator, albeit a very interested one, but I have long thought that Hickson possesses just the right mix of pragmatism and idealism for this job.

Incidentally, I used validator.nu to check my work. It seemed the most up to date, but there’s no guarantee it’s perfectly accurate.

Etant donné que c'est le seul qui soit sérieusement fait, on espère qu'il est à peu près à jour. Maintenant, difficile de valider un machin mouvant comme HTML 5 (et à quoi ça sert d'abord, étant donné qu'aucun navigateur n'implémente le gros de la spéc, à savoir les 232 pages d'algorithme de parsing).
