There are several different types of tax returns including federal and state returns. Most individuals are familiar with personal income tax returns such as the 1040, 1040A, or 1040EZ returns since they most likely file one of those each year. Then depending on where they live they may also have to file a state income tax return although not all states have income taxes.
For small business owners, depending on how they are structured, they may have to file a schedule C which is part of the 1040 tax return. If they are structure as a Corporation or partnership then they would file those types of returns. Regardless of what type of income tax return you have to file, most people and businesses do not enjoy the process, unless of course they get getting money back. However the problem with getting money back is you are letting the government use it interest free all year long.
If you are ready to file your tax return(s) you may want to consider using online tax software as it has come a long way. Most average individuals could prepare their own returns using tax software and save some money each year and it is worthwhile to try using a free version to see if you could do the same. If you need professional advice it is always available if you want or need to pay a CPA or tax preparer for assistance.
