Clustering - Jackrabbit Wiki

Clustering Clustering support was added in Jackrabbit 1.2.1. This works as follows: content is shared through all cluster nodes. Every change made by one cluster node is reported in a journal, which can be either file based or written to some database. Prerequisites In order to cluster some repository nodes, the following prerequisites must be met: * The persistence managers must store their data in the same, globally accessible location * Every cluster node must be assigned a unique ID * A journal type must be chosen, either based on files or stored in a database

Enterprise Java Community: JCR: A Practitioner's Perspective

(via)
The Java Content Repository specification (JSR-170) focuses on "content services," where these not only manage data, but offer author based versioning, full-text searches, fine grained access control, content categorization and content event monitoring. Programmers can use repositories in many ways just like a JDBC connection accesses a database: programmers obtain a connection to a repository, open a session, use the session to access a set of data, and then close the session. The JCR specification has multiple levels of compliance; the most simple level offers read-only access to a repository, XPath-like queries, and some other elements, while other levels of the specification offer a SQL-like query syntax, write capabilities, and more advanced features.

Squid Reverse Proxy

This document describes reverse proxies, and how they are used to improve Web server performance. Section 1 gives an introduction to reverse proxies, describing what they are and what they are used for. Section 2 compares reverse proxy caches with standard and transparent proxy caches, explaining the different functionality each provides. Section 3 illustrates how the reverse proxy actually caches the content and delivers it to the client. Section 4 describes how to configure Squid as a reverse proxy cache.

The Geronimo renegade: The exodus from JBoss to Apache Geronimo

(via)
Now that Apache Geronimo has earned Java™ 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) 1.4 certification and has reached version 1.1.1, many developers will be moving away from building their software on top of more restrictive platforms. Specifically, there have been a number of articles and tutorials written lately describing migrating away from the JBoss application server to Apache Geronimo. This installment of The Geronimo renegade column describes many advantages of doing so.

Anyone using Zend Studio Debugger? | drupal.org

(via)
I'm curious if anyone is using Zend Studio to debug local installations of drupal? I've been using Zennd for development purposes for a while but just decided to try and make it work locally allowing me to debug code without actuallly running it on my server. I managed to get the server up and running fine but can't seem to make it debug drupal. Any suggestions, tips, etc would be greatly appreciated. Please share your experiences with this product.

Using PDT : Installation : Installing the Zend Debugger - PDTWiki

Zend Debugger is a full-featured php debugger engine, an interactive tool that helps you debug PHP scripts. It works with a production and/or development web server and allows you to debug your scripts locally or remotely, from an IDE or the console. To get the debugger to work you need to install the debugger engine to run in the PHP interpreter (server part), and configure the debugger client to communicate with the engine.

Surviving 100,000 instant Visitors on a Budget

(via)
Last Sunday I casually wrote a post about the most common pitfalls in photography. I had written the post a long time ago, but I never put it on this site. The story ended up on the front page of Digg, stayed there for nearly 12 hours and was picked up by a bunch of secondary sources, resulting in 100,000 Visitors within a day (most of them within the first 12 hours). Trying to keep my server up and alive, I learned a lot about what it takes to keep the server alive, hence I decided to slide a non photography related post in, hopefully giving everyone who finds themselves in a similar situation some points to consider.

PortletBridge - Frequently Asked Questions

by 1 other
What is the PortletBridge Portlet? The PortletBridge Portlet is a JSR 168 compliant portlet that allows a downstream web site to be proxied as a portlet. By default it only displays the content of the BODY but custom XSLT can be used to transform the data from the downstream site. What is the difference between the PortletBridge Portlet and an IFrame There are several differences between using an IFrame and the PortletBridge Portlet. Probably the biggest advantage to using an IFrame is that it is simpler than the PortletBridge Portlet and the downstream site will often be more faithfully rendered. There are however several advantages to using the PortletBridge Portlet.

The OpenLDAP Proxy Server

(via)
As stated previously, an LDAP proxy server accesses services (in our case, LDAP services) on behalf of a client's request. This architecture is used frequently if the user is behind a firewall and wishes to access resources outside, normally on the Internet. More generally, the LDAP proxy provides a way of giving controlled access via the LDAP protocol to resources outside the actual domain; therefore, you may use it to join different domains in your intranet (e.g., different LANs located in different countries of your enterprise intranet).

The Warne Account » Top 30 mistakes made by new Mac users

(via)
The Unofficial Apple Weblog has posted a short story on the top five mistakes made by new mac users. It includes closing an application window, thinking it has quit, downloading software and then running it from the disk image (runs slowly, can’t eject disk image), Windows .EXE files littered around the desktop after they’ve tried to download software and install it. The comments attached to the article are entertaining, and pick up many other common mistakes.

Tutorial LDAP

(via)

rrdtool tidbits

by 1 other (via)
rrdtool (round robin database tool) by Tobi Oetiker is a small database and graphing tool for many kinds of data. If you know, mrtg, you´ll have an idea of what its output may look like; just think of rrdtool as far more flexible (and thus a good deal more complex ;). On this page, I have put up some snippets that I used in the past to create graphs about different kinds of data. They´re provided as-is -- i.e. you might have some work to do before they work exactly the way you want them to.

RRDtool - rrdtutorial

The documentation provided with RRDtool can be too technical for some people. This tutorial is here to help you understand the basics of RRDtool. It should prepare you to read the documentation yourself. It also explains the general things about statistics with a focus on networking.
