As social sites grow in popularity, so does the desire for smaller niche-based networks that cater to smaller groups of people. Just look at the rise of social networks for chess players and wine.

Back in the mid 90’s, David Foote used the metaphor of a “pig in a python” to describe the impact that the retiring baby boom generation was going to have on fabric of Canadian society.

I work with networks as part of my research, so I never let a good idea about exploring complex networks pass. One problem with working with complex networks, is that it is very hard to define them. We interact with complex systems all the time, often composed of hundreds if not thousands of elements connected together. But to capture them in a quantitative representation, thats the big challenge!
