FIR>57 - How to enable Firefox WebExtensions on Mozilla websites - gHacks Tech News

The hidden Firefox preference :privacy.resistFingerprinting.block_mozAddonManager removes the WebExtensions restriction. Here is how you set it: 1 - Load about:config in the Firefox web browser. You can run a search for privacy.resistFingerprinting.block_mozAddonManager just to make sure it does not exist. It does not in the most recent Firefox Nightly builds at the time of writing. 2 - Right-click in the part of the window that lists the preferences, and select New > Boolean from the context menu. 3 - Name the new Boolean value privacy.resistFingerprinting.block_mozAddonManager. Set its value to true. A value of true means that WebExtensions work normally on Mozilla's website. You can undo the change at any time by setting the preference to false on the about:config page of the browser. Mozilla added the new hidden preference to Firefox 57. It is not available in Firefox 56, and there is no option to introduce it in the browser. Firefox Stable users who run WebExtensions right now need to wait until the browser is updated to version 57 to set the preference and gain the functionality

FIR - SECURITY + PRIVACY - Firefox Configuration Guide for Privacy Freaks and Performance Buffs | 12Bytes.org

(via)
There is a huge selection of Firefox add-ons for tweaking privacy and security, some of the most popular of which are Adblock Plus and it’s many derivatives, NoScript, Flashblock, Ghostery, Web of Trust, BetterPrivacy, Lightbeam, Disconnect, Self-Destructing Cookies, Cookies Manager+, Request Policy, Policeman, Bluhell Firewall, RefControl, Smart Referer, HTTPS Everywhere and many, many others. With some possible exceptions, we won’t be using any of these, yet will retain much of the most important functionality offered by most of them with just a few add-ons, along with a plethora of changes to our Firefox configuration.

FIR57> - Addon Deprecated : ALternative in WebExtension (WE) - firefox-webext-list - Google Sheets

(via)
A giant table, I think it would be important to also include whether an old extension is no longer possible (deprecated), or someone just hasn't written an alternative yet, or whether there exists a planned API addition that would make it possible. Lots of alternatives are also missing a few features, and it would be good to know what's missing and why (impossible or just not yet implemented)The list is certainly not giant yet, but here's a start (based on responses from this post)/ https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/6i1fu2/webext_equivalents_to_legacy_addons/°

CSS - FirePath :: Reviews :: Add-ons for Firefox

An alternative or Update ? Rated 5 out of 5 stars by decembre on Feb. 21, 2018 · permalink When i write an Userstyle it is (was) the primary tool i use with Firebug. Now i search an alternative for this great tool: The devtool don't give us the possibility to search or test a specific CSS selector like Firepath do. And in an other hand the DevTool is less useful than Firebug (it don't give an easy way to identify in which userstyle a CSS rule is - with an human reading way)

1. Grammarly (Addon - https://app.grammarly.com/) : Tenses, Conjunctions, Punctuation. Advise or Advice. Co-operate or Cooperate. This nifty tool helps me proofread my work of creation to make sure there are no spelling mistakes no commas missing and that my end result reads well. I just have to copy and paste my text into Grammarly’s Editor and see it work its magic! 2. Power Thesaurus (https://www.powerthesaurus.org/): This tool makes sure I never run out of words. Ever. Abnormality can become Anomaly, Excitement can become Exhilaration, Untidy to Unkempt, Indirect to Vicarious …. the possibilities are endless! 3. ZenPen (http://www.zenpen.io/) : I find myself experimenting with all of that little editing/ (formatting?) tools available at the side while writing before I even have the first sentence ready. It gives me a minimalist writing space to write my blogposts without any distractions. 4. Hemingway (http://www.hemingwayapp.com/): My one stop tool to refine my blog post and make it publish ready! It does everything: Highlights grammatical errors, Points out complex words and suggests alternatives, Flags passive voices, and, Highlights sentences which are difficult to read and could do with breaking lines. 5. Evernote (https://evernote.com/): Evernote is that super handy tool that helps me take the right notes, so I can bring them all together when I put pen to paper in my next blog post. Evernote lets me note down things on the go wherever I am. I can note down Texts, Images and even Audios for when I want to revisit them later.

FIR 57 - ADDON - uBlock Origin - uBO/webext - Read carefully if using uBO/webext

FIR 57 - ADDON - uBO/webext works best with Firefox 57 and above, and with multi-process enabled. There are many reports of people experiencing issues with some web sites, or images not loading, etc. Turns out many of these are a result of using some legacy extensions along uBO/webext. For instance, Reek's AAK in GreaseMonkey has been causing issues with images not loading. If you experience such issue, you will have to disable all your legacy extensions and see if this fixes your issue. If so, then you will have to re-enable your legacy extensions one by one to find the one(s) causing the problem. Those legacy extensions can cause multi-process to be disabled in your browser, and apparently when multi-process is disabled, this can cause many cases of page load failure.

FIR - ADDON USERSTYELS - Forum reply about Stylus Permissions Required and Privacy - Stylus :: add0n.com

(via)
Forum reply about Stylus Permissions Required and Privacy (by NarcolepticInsomniac): Responding to this almost seems silly, since OP is clearly delusional, but I might as well clarify so that no one else is confused by this FUD. Stylus needs to monitor, and have the ability to modify all pages in order to detect which URLs have applicable styles, and then inject those stylesheets. If you had any clue what you were talking about, you'd recognize that pretty broad permissions are required for such functionality. The real issue is that these same permissions which are required for basic functionality can also be abused by adding telemetry or other garbage. The majority of extensions include some low level basic analytics for development purposes, and many go much further than that, collecting your complete browsing history with personally identifying info to create profiles. These profiles can then be bought and sold for targeted advertising purposes. That's what happened to Stylish when it was sold to an analytics company, and one of the main reasons we created Stylus was to rectify this abuse of permissions granted by users who trusted the previous dev. Stylus collects nothing. Period. Not even low level analytics for install counts or to help in development regarding which features warrant more attention. This is a pain in the ass for development, but also very important for instilling trust within our user-base. The code is completely open source, so anyone can review it. With many users actively involved in maintaining and improving it, rest assured that nothing sketchy can make its way into the actual code. I think it might be worth adding an explanation for each permission in README. Not that it will convince the most suspicious users by itself, but then again they can simply use WireShark or Fiddler to see what Stylus network communications are (answer: only style update checks when the corresponding option is enabled).

FIR 57 - ADDON - Made a small video on how to hack an example WebExtension! - Add-ons / Development - Mozilla Discourse

(via)
f you have friends that want to start with building WebExtensions show them this link https://vimeo.com/2402821339 Most people start with “Hello World” web sites when they want to learn Front End stuff. This is boring. Building an WebExtension as the first web project is sooo totally awesome! I choose to sign it as unlisted WebExtension since lots of people don’t know it’s possible and if you are a n00b and want to share your extension in 5 minutes regardless of how useless it is, an unlisted web extension is better than a listed one.

FIR / CHROME - ADDON - AccessURL

FIR 57>+ - userChrome.css / userContent.css - WebExtensions can not modify browsers appearance in Firefox 57+

The only way to modify UI is adding custom CSS code to userChrome.css and userContent.css files inside browsers profile folder. Keep in mind CSS code can not create entirely new items, buttons or toolbars. It only can modify already present ui items. 1. Find your profile folder ('profile names are different for everyone'). All OS: about:support > Profile Folder > Open Folder 2. User styles belong into "chrome" subolder. Create it, if there is none yet. PROFILENAME chrome 3. Copy userChrome.css, userContent.css and subfolders into chrome subfolder. How to use custom user styles? The userChrome.css and userContent.css files works like an optionsconfigurations file. All main "features" can be enabled and disabled there.
