Howto: ISP-style Email Server with Debian-Etch and Postfix 2.3

The configuration described here is not very complicated but still needs to be done carefully. You are expected to have at least basic knowledge of: * MySQL (creating a database, granting access to users, basic SQL queries) * SMTP (what it is and what a basic SMTP dialog looks like) * POP3, IMAP (what they do and what the differences are) * basic Postfix configuration (understand the default settings in your, have read through the basic configuration document and know that your mail log file is at /var/log/mail.log) * Debian/Linux (general system administration, using a text editor, reading log files)

SMTP Performance Benchmarking

To test and benchmark several common SMTP servers for Unix. This is inspired by the work done by Matthias Andree at his Postfix vs. qmail - Performance page. His information, while likely still highly relevant is based heavily around file system I/O and not overall performance of the MTA. Additionally, more MTAs and OSs will eventually be tested here.

Qmail/Postfix/ClamAV Dual MTA HOWTO

Here is a quick guide to implementing virus protection on an existing Qmail server by adding Postfix, ClamAV and amavisd-new. Readers may ask themselves why anyone would want to do this. There is an actual reason why this particular set up came about.

Full Mail Server Solution w/ Virtual Domains & Users (Debian Etch, Postfix, Mysql, Dovecot, DSpam, ClamAV, Postgrey, RBL) | HowtoForge - Linux Howtos and Tutorials

This guide describes how to set up a full email solution in Debian Linux (all code is from Debian Etch). I was asked to design a secure, scalable, portable solution for a small company. While the guide references many 'servers', the company only had 4 physical machines, Xen was used to virtualize the entire solution. That particular aspect of the system is not discussed in this guide, although I will try to get it into the next revision.

o3 magazine | The Open Source Enterprise Magazine

Issue 8 provides a guide to deploying Email systems from End to End. Several columns look at each component of an Enterprise grade email solution using Open Source. These articles lead up to a discussion on designing Scalable SMTP Networks. This issue also looks at Voicemail / Email integration with Asterisk.

This HOWTO enables you to build a complete open source turn-key email server in a matter of hours (instead of days or weeks). In one sense it is more like one big script that requires intervention. It can be considered a howto if one reads the contents of each patch and script I provide.

GPLHost:>_ Web hosting open source (GPL) control panel

by 3 others
Domain Technologie Control (DTC) is a GPL control panel for hosting. Using a web GUI for admin and accounting all hosting services, DTC can delegate the task of creating subdomains, email, and FTP accounts to users for the domain names they own. DTC manages a MySQL database containing all the hosting information. It has support for many programs (bind 8 and 9 and compatibles, MySQL, Apache 1.3, php4, qmail, postfix 2, courier, dovecot, proftpd, webalizer, mod-log-sql, etc.) through config files and/or MySQL plugins (when the service is non-critical). It can also generate backup scripts, calculation scripts, and config files using a single system UID/GID and monitor all traffic accounting per user and per service. Since version 0.12, DTC is fully skinable and translated into several languages (Chinese, English, Spanish, French, Dutch, German, Italian, Russian, Hungarian, Romanian and Polish).
