MySQL Parallel Dump Multi threaded mysqldump is not an utopia any more. mysqlpdump can dump all your tables and databases in parallel so it can be much faster in systems with multiple cpu’s. It stores each table in a different file by default. It can also generate the dump to stdout although this is not recommended because it can use all the memory in your system if your tables are big.

Back Up (And Restore) LVM Partitions With LVM Snapshots | HowtoForge - Linux Howtos and Tutorials

This tutorial shows how you can create backups of LVM partitions with an LVM feature called LVM snapshots. An LVM snapshot is an exact copy of an LVM partition that has all the data from the LVM volume from the time the snapshot was created. The big advantage of LVM snapshots is that you don't have to worry about open files and database connections, and you don't have to interrupt/halt services on the live partition because a snapshot is usually created in fractions of a second, so your users won't notice any disruption, and your snapshot holds consistent data.

GPLHost:>_ Web hosting open source (GPL) control panel

by 3 others
Domain Technologie Control (DTC) is a GPL control panel for hosting. Using a web GUI for admin and accounting all hosting services, DTC can delegate the task of creating subdomains, email, and FTP accounts to users for the domain names they own. DTC manages a MySQL database containing all the hosting information. It has support for many programs (bind 8 and 9 and compatibles, MySQL, Apache 1.3, php4, qmail, postfix 2, courier, dovecot, proftpd, webalizer, mod-log-sql, etc.) through config files and/or MySQL plugins (when the service is non-critical). It can also generate backup scripts, calculation scripts, and config files using a single system UID/GID and monitor all traffic accounting per user and per service. Since version 0.12, DTC is fully skinable and translated into several languages (Chinese, English, Spanish, French, Dutch, German, Italian, Russian, Hungarian, Romanian and Polish).

Painless backups using rdiff-backup : Page 2

(via)
The rdiff-backup program is a command-line utility with a simple syntax, that makes backup copies of one or more directories to a target directory. To that extent, it is just straightforward: type the command, and it does the job. Embed a command within a script for extra facilities, and add the script to the scheduled tasks to run automatic backups. Target directories may be on any writable device, and may be safely copied.
