Un ensemble de nouveaux tutoriels a été mis en ligne cette semaine pour inaugurer une nouvelle thématique : L'administration de serveurs dédiés. En effet, les hébergements dédiés sont devenus monnaie courante, et il est fréquent de devoir plonger les mains dans le cambouis. Ces tutoriels ont pour but de servir de feuille de route à la mise en place d'un serveur web sous Apache assorti de PHP et MySQL, ainsi que de services mail et ftp. Des conseils en matière de monitoring, de sauvegarde et de sécurité complètent le tour d'horizon. Deux d'entre eux abordent également de façon rapide l'installation du webmail Roundcube et du panel de gestion DTC pour contrôler plus efficacement les services évoqués précédemment dans le cas d'un hébergement multi-domaines.

The "Virtual Machine Manager" application (virt-manager for short package name) is a desktop user interface for managing virtual machines. It presents a summary view of running domains and their live performance & resource utilization statistics. A detailed view presents graphs showing performance & utilization over time. Ultimately it will allow creation of new domains, and configuration & adjustment of a domain's resource allocation & virtual hardware. Finally an embedded VNC client viewer presents a full graphical console to the guest domain.

Ce document a pour objectif de faire profiter les personnes envisageant un déploiement d'Asterisk dans leur entreprise de l'expérience que j'ai acquise ; il détaille l'architecture mise en place, les choix techniques que nous avons fait et la motivation de ces choix, les erreurs à éviter et il fourni des liens vers nos fichiers de configuration à titre d'exemple. Si vous avez plusieurs machines ubuntu sur votre réseau, et que vous devez faire des taches répétitives sur ces machines, dsh va bien vous aider. Dsh (Distributed SHell ou Dancer's SHell) permet de lancer une commande sur une/des machines ou encore mieux des groupes de machines.

KForge is an open-source (GPL) system for managing software and knowledge projects. It re-uses existing best-of-breed tools such as a versioned storage (subversion), a tracker (trac), and wiki (trac or moinmoin), integrating them with the system’s own facilities (projects, users, permissions etc). KForge also provides a complete web interface for project administration as well a fully-developed plugin system so that new services and features can be easily added.

The postgrey package is a greylisting implementation for postfix. It is a breeze to set-up and stopped 89.99% of my spam in conjunction with blacklisting.

Because OpenSSH allows you to run commands on remote systems, showing you the results directly, as well as just logging in to systems it's ideal for automating common tasks with shellscripts and cronjobs. One thing that you probably won't want is to do though is store the remote system's password in the script. Instead you'll want to setup SSH so that you can login securely without having to give a password.

There are a lot of Debian systems running PHP code, and in their default state the Debian PHP packages don't tighten up security as much as they could. There are a lot of badly coded scripts out there which can be abused by malicious users. (PHP is in alone in that regard!)

To save power it's often useful to turn systems off, but of course when you do that you cannot use them! This is especially frustrating when you turn off a machine which is physically remote from you, but it doesn't need to be. Many modern PCs have the ability to be remotely "woken up" and turned on.
