Ajax-powered hotel bookings. The whole booking process takes place on a single page. The use of ajax is very impressive.

Fixya

Technical support for consumer products. Post your problem for other users to answer, or search the archives for past questions. Could become useful if they can build up a large database of answers.

Create slideshows with voice narration. An interesting idea, although some photo-sharing sites (BubbleShare, for instance) already allow you to add audio to photos. Still, not a bad attempt.

BooksWellRead

Social software for book readers. Record what you read, write about it and get recommendations. Nothing new here, and fairly poor usability and design. WhatShouldIReadNext is a similar idea.

Memedigger for technology, sports, entertainment, business, world news, society and health. Delivers interesting results.

Email newsletters for bloggers. Send out a daily, weekly or monthly summary of your blog posts. Pretty slick. Converting RSS to email is easily done, but the ability to bundle posts into a summary is a nice touch.

Verbdate

by 2 others
Dating site with tagging and Skype integration. Seems pretty under-baked right now, with very few profiles and a sparse design.

NetworthIQ

by 3 others
Financial tracking and sharing. Track, share and compare your net worth. Interesting use of social software.

Listible

Memedigger for lists. Create lists of your favorite sites and let others add new entries and vote on them. The site seems to be dominated by Web 2.0 fans, and the majority of the lists are concerned with the latest web-based applications and services.

Zopa

Marketplace for money lending and borrowing. In other words - "eBay for loans". Very innovative and apparently quite reliable. They now have a rival called Prosper.

Dabble DB

by 9 others
Web-based database creation and more. Very powerful with plenty of features. Attractive and easy to use - definitely a possible acquisition target.

Queoo

by 2 others
Receive an email or instant message when your favorite feeds are updated. Simple and seems to work.

Box.net

Online storage solution. Share photos and files, backup folders and create RSS feeds for groups. 1GB storage is completely free, while 5GB costs $4.99 per month. Extremely attractive and easy to use.

Sharpcast

Easily sync photos between your computer, your phone and the web. Pretty good. They're also building a platform for developers so that any data can be effortlessly synchronized between devices.

Minti

Social site where parents can exchange advice. Includes ranking, commenting, search and tags. A good idea, and well-suited to the target market. Really easy to use.

MyHomePoint

by 5 others
Online calendaring for the modern family. Feature-rich and easy to use. Impressive.

Zoho Writer

by 7 others
Web-based word processor. Very responsive and fairly easy to use. Writely is a good alternative.

ZapTXT

by 5 others
Receive your RSS feeds via email or SMS. ZapTXT applies filters to your feeds so that only the most important information gets through. Similar to Rasasa, but not as polished.

CD trading community. Trade your CDs for $1 each (plus $0.49 shipping). 20% of the revenue goes to the artist - you also get a free CD when you sign up. Ultimately, this idea seems about 5 years too late and it's bound to attract the wrong type of person.

GiveSmart

Web portal that supports charities. View news stories, check your email and shop through GiveSmart and a proportion of the ad revenue will be sent to a charity of your choice. GiveSmart appears to be built on partnerships and affiliate agreements with other sites. It's not clear whether GiveSmart is taking a cut of this revenue, although my expectation is that they are.

Feed43

Convert any web page into an RSS feed. Although similar in principle to FeedYes, Feed43 is much more comprehensive - you can grab entire pages, or select sections of a page. Unfortunately it's not the easiest tool to use - there are multiple boxes to fill in and you need to have a basic grasp of coding. Still, once you get it to work it's very impressive.

FeedYes

by 5 others
Create an RSS feed for any page on the web. Examples include eBay searches and news sites without feeds. FeedYes outputs a list of headlines, rather than grabbing an entire page. A nice service - Feed43 is similar.

AirSet

Online calendar, contacts and to-do lists. Manage your groups in one place and sync with Outlook or Palm desktop. Also has sharing capabilities and the option to make calendars public. A nice effort, although the interface isn't as slick as it could be.

The Form Assembly

by 2 others
Web-based form creator - similar to JotForm and Wufoo. Build your own forms or adapt the free templates. You can choose to host the forms on your own site or with The Form Assembly's hosting service. However, you should be aware that The Form Assembly is not free forever - it is based around a system of paid credits and you should familiarize yourself with this system before signing up.

Flagr

by 13 others
Real-world social bookmarking. Send a text or picture message to Flagr and it will be plotted on a Google Map. Alternatively, you can add locations on the Flagr website itself. Flagr also allows you to explore the bookmarks others have left or browse their profiles. An interesting idea, and definitely a sign of things to come.
