OpenNebula :: start
OpenNEbula (former GridHypervisor) is a virtual infrastructure engine that enables the dynamic deployment and re-allocation of virtual machines on a pool of physical resources. ONE (OpenNEbula) extends the benefits of virtualization platforms from a single physical resource to a pool of resources, decoupling the server not only from the physical infrastructure but also from the physical location.

XenSource Knowledge Base : Creating a XenServer Storage Repository on a FAKERAID volume using dmraid
XenServer Host installation on a FAKERAID volume (as opposed to real hardware RAID volume) is not yet supported, but you can create a Storage Repository on a RAID volume after XenServer Host installation.
For this procedure you need three hard disks, two which are configured as RAID1, and the third which is not a part of the RAID array.

Virtual Machine Manager: Home
The "Virtual Machine Manager" application (virt-manager for short package name) is a desktop user interface for managing virtual machines. It presents a summary view of running domains and their live performance & resource utilization statistics. A detailed view presents graphs showing performance & utilization over time. Ultimately it will allow creation of new domains, and configuration & adjustment of a domain's resource allocation & virtual hardware. Finally an embedded VNC client viewer presents a full graphical console to the guest domain.

Automating Xen Virtual Machine Deployment
While consolidating physical to virtual machines using Xen,we want to be able to deploy and manage virtual machines in the same way we manage and deploy physical machines. For operators and support people there should be no difference between virtual and physical installations.
Integrating Virtual Machines with the rest of the infrastructure, should have a low impact on the existing infrastructure. Typically, Virtual machine vendors have their own tools to deploy and manage virtual machines. Apart from the vendor lock-in to that specific virtual machine platform , it requires the administrators to learn yet another platform that they need to understand and manage, something we want to prevent.
This paper discusses how we integrated SystemImager with Xen, hence creating a totally open source deployment framework for the popular open source Virtual Machine monitor. We will document both development of our tools and go more in depth on other infrastructure related issues when using Xen
System Imaging environments in combination with Virtual machines can also be used to ensure safe production deployments. By saving your current production image before updating to your new production image, you have a highly reliable contingency mechanism. If the new production environment is found to be flawed, simply roll-back to the last production image on the virtual machines with a simple update command!
Xen has become one of the most popular virtualisation platforms over the last year, although not such a young project, it is now rapidly gaining acceptance in the corporate world as a valuable alternative to VMWare.

* il est libre;
* intégré au noyau Linux;
* simple et performant;

Download of the day: Oracle VM
Virtualization is the process of abstracting computing resources such that multiple operating system and application images can share a single physical server, bringing significant cost-of-ownership and manageability benefits. Through its Oracle VM product, Oracle offers scalable, low-cost server virtualization for heterogeneous applications.
Oracle VM is free server virtualization software that fully supports both Oracle and non-Oracle applications, and is three times more efficient than other server virtualization products.
Consisting of Xen’s open source server software and an integrated Web browser-based management console, Oracle VM provides an easy-to-use graphical interface for creating and managing virtual server pools, running on x86 and x86-64-based systems, across an enterprise.
