Sans cet homme, les oeuvres de Tim Burton ou Terry Gilliam auraient été nettement différentes. Des films comme Vincent ou L’étrange de Noël de Mr Jack n’auraient peut-être pas existé. Jan Svankmajer est un artiste tchèque né en 1934 considéré comme l’un des pères de l’animation, principalement en “stop-motion”. Ce n’est pas seulement sa technique mais aussi son univers étrange, surréaliste, décalé et parfois cauchemardesque qui le rendent exceptionnel.
