PrinceXML Is Extremely Impressive

by karlcow

Prince is basically a print / typesetting / PDF generation tool based on popular web standards (HTML, XML, CSS, SVG, etc). For applications that are developed for the web first and then want PDF/print capabilities added on top, a tool like Prince makes a lot of sense. You can take your web content, sprinkle on a bit of print specific CSS, and get very acceptable PDF output. This beats the pants off having to write and maintain a separate LaTeX, DocBook, FO, or raw PDF apparatus to get good print support for your primarily web-based content.

James Duncan Davidson > Restoring from Time Machine

by karlcow

It’s only mentioned as a side thought that you can also use it to fully restore your hard drive in case of a crash. Restoring an entire disk, however, is the acid test of any backup system.

by karlcow & 3 others (via)

Scrivener is a word processor and project management tool created specifically for writers of long texts such as novels and research papers. It won't try to tell you how to write - it just makes all the tools you have scattered around your desk available in one application.

[…] And for those who want to typeset their own work, Scrivener even supports the MultiMarkdown markup language, which gives those who have more exacting requirements all the power of exporting to LaTeX and XHTML.

Je n'ai pas essayé mais cela semble être très intéressant.
