En janvier 2004, Sketch, le programme de dessin vectoriel de Bernhard HERZOG, s'est appelé Skencil, sans que cela change quoi que ce soit à sa technologie. L'outil reste programmé en Python, qui lui confère une stabilité sans égale et une rapidité tout à fait acceptable. Les fonctionnalités, longuement éprouvées depuis octobre 1998, demeurent efficaces et si faciles d'emploi, qu'aborder le dessin vectoriel sous Linux semblerait devoir se faire par ce programme sans fioritures, dont la robustesse compense la rusticité.

Skencil is a Free Software interactive vector drawing appliction. Known to run on GNU/Linux and other UNIX-compatible systems, it is a flexible and powerful tool for illustrations, diagrams and other purposes.
A somewhat unique (for a drawing program) feature of Skencil is that it is implemented almost completely in a very high-level, interpreted language, Python. Python is powerful, object-oriented and yet easy to use.

This is not an "I hate .mac" article but rather an explanation of the motivation and methods I used to provide myself with comparable services that are more useful to me. Synergy lets you easily share a single mouse and keyboard between multiple computers with different operating systems, each with its own display, without special hardware. It's intended for users with multiple computers on their desk since each system uses its own monitor(s).
Redirecting the mouse and keyboard is as simple as moving the mouse off the edge of your screen. Synergy also merges the clipboards of all the systems into one, allowing cut-and-paste between systems. Furthermore, it synchronizes screen savers so they all start and stop together and, if screen locking is enabled, only one screen requires a password to unlock them all. Synergy is open source and released under the GNU Public License (GPL).
