±0 - Home

by sbrothier & 1 other
±0 removes the framework of such product categories as household electronics goods and household goods and treats them all as a single lifestyle tool. For example, when thinking of bread for breakfast, we also think about the toaster, the plate and the bread basket that go with it. When thinking about situations where coffee is prepared, we also think about electric pots, coffee drippers and decanters. Household electric goods and household items are not devices that stand by themselves in our lives– they exist in a state of mutual harmony. ±0 believes that designing things that coexist together is natural. It’s not just about matching colors or shapes; it’s about designing the harmony between these devices and life.

Get all of the serenity with none of the chemicals in an original all-natural hot tub

by sbrothier
In Japan bathing rituals are an ancient and important part of life. Traditionally you clean yourself in a shower or seated hand bath and then step into an ofuro filled with clean, steaming water for a nice, hot soak.

by sbrothier

by sbrothier

Chantal Stoman

by sbrothier

Terunobu Fujimori - Slideshows - Dwell

by sbrothier (via)
Fujimori uses a tool to coax the fire up the boards; this ensures an even charring of the wood.

Materia: Charred Wood, Terunobu Fujimori

by sbrothier
Terunobu Fujimori, uses charred Cedar wood to create the most beautiful projects that are exercises in playful experimentation and sophisticated craft. The cedar boards have been treated with an ancient Japanese technique that seals the wood against rain and rot.

HN House by Shunsuke Uemoto | WHAT WE DO IS SECRET

by sbrothier (via)
A reinforced concrete house covered with “shou-sugi-ban” (burnt cedar) siding — the ultimate in luxury and durability. There are a few more unique things about this house designed by Shunsuke Uemoto – a ‘crevasse’ opens through the top to the bottom in the middle of the house, the master bedroom and bathroom are located in the basement while the kitchen and dining room are on the third floor, and therefore the house is equipped with an elevator.

MIRAI NIHON Project

by sbrothier
We designed a house called "MIRAI NIHON" where technology and nature coexist with people and enable a 100% off-grid life. To make this happen, we collaborated with more than 20 companies to provide new technologies and inventions that bring the concept to life, and that have not yet been commercialized. Then we 'launched' the house as a product, making it available for sale.

Asako Narahashi “half awake and half asleep in the water” // Japan-Photo.info

by sbrothier
I am very fond of this series which was photographed by Asako Narahashi at several places around Japan in 2000-2003. The curator Michiko Kasahara (today working at the MOT) was instrumental in promoting the series when she included the series “half awake and half asleep in the water” in the exhibition Kiss in the Dark: Contemporary Japanese Photography.

House in Setagaya-ku | Leibal Blog

by sbrothier
In relation to other Japanese homes, this particular residence is slightly off in the way it was designed; however, in a good way. I can’t really put my finger on it, but I think the minimalism seen in this house is just more free and unconstrained. There are more colors and material choices being used, the second floor has a balcony, and there is less focus on extreme space efficiency. Vote or comment below for your thoughts.

Musashi no Ken [H264] [ARR] torrent - BakaBT

by sbrothier (via)
Musashi no Ken is a great old school classic about a young boy, Musashi, raised from even before birth to become the greatest Kendo champpion in all of Japan. With a martial arts expert for a father and a mother with an enthusiasm streak you’ve rarely seen – their son Musashi is born to be super strong, fast, and trains harder than anyone – so how can he not become a champion? Part of the anime is him as a child, and part is of him as an adult.

An inclined roof, an all-white exterior and glassless windows give this modern, privacy-conscious home a distinct character

by sbrothier
Located in a quiet residential suburb of Okazaki, Japan, the appropriately named "White Mountain House" was designed to give its inhabitants a view of Mount Hongu and privacy from neighboring families. "My clients live in a suburb with a lot of detached houses; they are surrounded by neighbors in the side and in the back. I wanted to create various 'exteriors' within the house without having my clients leave their home," says architect Takayuki Kuzushima.
