Oculus Rift (developer kit) Specs & Latest News | Oculus | The Verge

by sbrothier
The Oculus Rift uses two lenses in a ski mask-style head-mounted display that combine to form a 1280 x 800 display. Each eye sees 640 x 800 pixels and while that still sounds like a low resolution in 2013, you can't judge the product on that single spec alone. The rest of the hardware simply consists of a break-out control box you use to plug the Rift into your computer; it features DVI, HDMI, micro-USB and power.

Do TV Apps Have a Future? | Blogs | Red Bee Media

by sbrothier
2011 saw the birth of TV Apps - small web applications that sit in a menu ready to be revealed at the press of a ‘Smart’ button on your new TV’s remote control. You could be forgiven for not knowing they exist; any smart TV before 2011 was a mixed experience, and connecting your home network broadband to your TV isn’t as natural as connecting your games console or laptop. According to Forrester, half of all connected TV owners never link them to the internet.

Men and pigs, united by a game. | AMUSEMENT.NET

by sbrothier
A new game, Pig Chase, will soon let you have a play date with a pig. Following a European legislation, farmers have to provide pigs with entertainment to prevent them from being bored or violent. A team from the Utrecht School of the Arts and Wageningen University came up with a solution: a tablet game where humans and pigs play together towards the same objective. The human controls a ball of light on his touchscreen. The pig has to do the same thing with his snout on the screen of his pen. If they succeed to bring the ball to the goal an explosion of lights bring joy and happiness to the pigpen. And a great satisfaction for the human: he’s going to eat a peaceful meat.
