Webfonts are getting mandatory for decent UX on most webapps ... Still, if I want to avoid ugly Arial and TrebuchetMS, I will need to tweak .fonts.conf ...

I have written before about my admiration for Web typography, and in that article I touched on the fact that many “Web safe” fonts can’t be applied to Linux. Linux distributions each ship with their own font libraries, but I’d like to focus on similar typefaces you can use within a font-family to help make your design bulletproof.

把字型檔複製到 /usr/share/fonts/truetype 下，（最好自行新建立子目錄以利分類）。 注意一下新的目錄（建議為 755）及字型檔的權限（建議為 644）。 使用 defoma-hints --no-question truetype FontFileName > FontName.hints 建立字型資訊檔。

mingliu.ttc 有兩個 faces，第零個 face 是 細明體(MingLiU)，英文字型是等寬的， 第一個是新細明體(PMingLiU)，不等寬的英文字型

在安裝完 TTF 字型後，您可以利用 fc-list 指令來得知系統上已安裝了哪些字型。例如以下指令可以找出在系統裡已安裝的文鼎字型

suse開頭的檔案都是suse設定的 以前這些檔案都在fonts.conf中include進來 現在fonts.conf中只include了conf.d/這個目錄

由於一些（愚不可及）的因素，在 Xorg 裡的 zh_TW.UTF-8 編碼是壞的，所以一些使用 X11 字型的應用程式，像是 XMMS 或是 ePSXe 在 UTF-8 環境下所顯示的全是亂碼。

然后编辑 X 的输入法配置文件 /etc/X11/Xsession.d/95input（如果没有这个文件，就创建一个）： export XIM=SCIM export XMODIFIERS=@im=SCIM scim -d （这一步在安装 SCIM 就应该做好了的。）
