Nokia - Location Tagger

by karlcow

With Nokia Location Tagger, you can automatically tag your location data to your pictures. As you take a picture, your GPS coordinates are saved to the EXIF header of the JPEG file. You can use this data later, for example, to locate your pictures on a map. In the near future, we hope to make location tagging a seamlessly integrated part of your Nokia experience. Until then, Nokia Location Tagger is a small standalone application that gives you a sneak preview. We are not planning to productize this application as such, but we’d love to hear your thoughts already now, so that we have time to take it into account in the mainstream development.

The exiftags utility parses a specified JPEG file or, by default, its standard input, looking for a JPEG APP1 section containing Exif (Exchangeable Image File) image metadata. The properties contained in these data are then printed to the standard output. Digital cameras typically add Exif data to the image files they produce, containing information about the camera and digitized image.

Sony GPS-CS1 et Nikon d70

by karlcow
One of my first questions for Sony regarding the device was whether it syncs well with non-Sony cameras. In theory that should be no problem since the GPS location data and JPEG metadata are standards. Sony said it will likely work but the company will only guarantee that it works with Sony cameras. I tried it out with pictures taken on two other cameras, a Pentax Optio and Nikon D70, and had no problems. It should work on any digital camera that outputs JPEG images with EXIF 2.1 standard metadata.
