Brazil Mill Ethanol Prices Rise 1.5% On Wk, 7%-8% On Month
Brazil's average ethanol prices at the Sao Paulo mill gate continued to rise this week, edging up roughly 1.5% compared to a week ago, and climbing between 7% to 8% in the past four weeks due in part to heightened demand on both the domestic and international markets, said a University of Sao Paulo think tank on Friday.
Ethanol in high demand
You can thank the demise of a popular fuel additive for the rising price of ethanol. Methyl tertiary-butyl ether, better known by its acronym MTBE, has been added to U.S. gasoline since 1979 to help keep engines from knocking.

Ford's hybrid strategy baffling
Understandably, some are puzzled by Ford Motor Co.'s recent decision to give up on plans to build more hybrid vehicles. Hybrid sales are on course for another record-setting year, driven by consumer demand for more energy-efficient cars and trucks.
Brazilian ethanol might ease energy woes
As long as our current version of national “energy policy” is committed to expanding the use of ethanol as a fuel additive to conventional gasoline products, it seems like a great time to find out if there actually is a market for ethanol that can economically support the product free of government intrusion through subsidies and tariffs.
Some lawmakers push sugar as source of ethanol
With the market for corn-based ethanol booming, lawmakers from sugar-producing states are hoping that beet and cane growers can soon jump onto the renewable fuel bandwagon.
