La conception d'une maison induit la rencontre de deux volontés :celle de l'architecte et celle des futurs habitants. La qualité dépend directement de la dynamique de leurs échanges : les besoins, les envies d'une part, les moyens techniques de l'autre.
Dans la perspective de ce concours, la conception de la maison se fait d'une manière exclusivement théorique, tel dans un laboratoire de recherche sur le thème de "vivre mieux", dans un soucis de respect environnemental. Le parti écologique est signifiant par le choix du mode de la construction bois ( montage à sec rapide, matériau sain, recyclable peu énergivore, performant thermiquement...)
En réaction à la banalisation de la construction pavillonaire, l'hypothèse de travail avancée est de proposer un système qui consiste en l'assemblage d'éléments standardisé simples, un vocabulaire basique qui puisse intégrer la diversité et l'unicité de chaque maison.
Le concept développé ici est un concept de souplesse et de fluidité, un concept origamique. Pour répondre à l'adaptabilité des besoins qui varient d'un âge à l'autre.
Pour répondre aussi à l'adaptabilité des besoins thermiques, fluctuant selon les saisons. Les maisons proposées sont des maisons "vivantes" en interaction avec leur environnement. Car chaque maison est unique, comme ses propriétaires, par son adaptation contextuelle sur son terrain (architecture passive par l'optimisation des énergies, vues, vents, etc...)

The concept of “green” typography may seem ridiculous to non-type-nerds and, yes OK, perhaps typography can’t conquer climate change, but it can certainly help communicate it! With these thoughts in mind, I thought it would be interesting to share some recent examples I’ve found of contemporary typography that truly redefine those terrifying visions of green (and tree-shaped) logos!
scalr - Google Code

Scalr is a fully redundant, self-curing and self-scaling hosting environment utilizing Amazon's EC2.
It allows you to create server farms through a web-based interface using prebuilt AMI's for load balancers (pound or nginx), app servers (apache, others), databases (mysql master-slave, others), and a generic AMI to build on top of.
The health of the farm is continuously monitored and maintained. When the Load Average on a type of node goes above a configurable threshold a new node is inserted into the farm to spread the load and the cluster is reconfigured. When a node crashes a new machine of that type is inserted into the farm to replace it.
4 AMI's are provided for load balancers, mysql databases, application servers, and a generic base image to customize. Scalr allows you to further customize each image, bundle the image and use that for future nodes that are inserted into the farm. You can make changes to one machine and use that for a specific type of node. New machines of this type will be brought online to meet current levels and the old machines are terminated one by one.
The project is still very young, but we're hoping that by open sourcing it the AWS development community can turn this into a robust hosting platform and give users an alternative to the current fee based services available.

Xen Virtualization and Linux Clustering, Part 1

In this article, I briefly introduce the concepts of Xen virtualization and Linux clustering. From there, I show you how to set up multiple operating systems on a single computer using Xen and how to configure them for use with clustering. I should point out that a cluster implemented in this manner does not provide the computational power of multiple physical computers. It does, however, offer a way to prototype a cluster as well as provide a cost-effective development environment for cluster-based software. Even if you're not interested in clustering, this article gives you hands-on experience using Xen virtualization.

Humans inflicted $47 trillion worth of damage to the environment from 1961 to 2000, according to a new study, and poor nations are disproportionately footing the bill. Taking their estimates a step further, the researchers conclude that high- and middle-income nations owe poor nations $3.2 trillion for the damage their development has caused.
