Welcome to Linux Cd.org - PCLinuxOS

by tadeufilippini
PCLinuxOS is an English only live CD that runs entirely from a bootable CD. Data on the CD is uncompressed on the fly, allowing up to 2GB of programs on one CD including a complete X server, KDE desktop, OpenOffice.org and many more applications all ready to use. In addition to the live CD, you can also install PCLinuxOS to your hard drive with an easy-to-use livecd-installer. Additional applications can be added or removed from your hard drive using a friendly apt-get front end via Synaptic.

SARDU - How to Combine Rescue Disks to Create the Ultimate Windows Repair Disk - How-To Geek

by decembre
Why limit yourself to just one? Here’s how to combine your favorite repair disks together to create the ultimate repair toolkit for broken Windows systems—all on a single flash drive. If you need to clean up an infected system, we’d absolutely recommend the BitDefender CD, since it’s auto-updating. Best bet? Create your ultimate boot disk with as many of the different utilities as your flash drive can hold. To create the rescue disk, a USB flash drive with a decent amount of space—for our purposes, 2 GB is the minimum size, but you’d be better off with something a little bigger if you want to put a lot of repair disks on it, especially the larger ones. To create the custom drive, we’ll use a small piece of software called SARDU, which combines a bunch of functionality into a single package—you can use it to download the ISO images, write everything to the USB drive, or create an ISO image that you could burn to an optical disc—though obviously you’re space-limited in that case.

by decembre
Ever get the urge to try out a bunch of Linux distros at once? Maybe you’re hosting a Linux installation party. Here’s an easy way to get a bunch of Live CDs working from a single thumb drive. 10 Distributions, You Say? MultiSystem is a really easy tool made to run on Ubuntu and Ubuntu-based distros that you can use to play with various LiveCDs at once, or to create the ultimate recovery device. If you don’t use Ubuntu, you can use an Ubuntu Live CD to install MultiSystem so that you can create your super live USB drive without having to run Linux as your main OS. It’s best to download your ISOs ahead of time, and select a USB drive large enough to house them all. I actually went with an 8 GB SD card (used via a USB adapter). Here are some of the popular and interesting distros I used.

This is handy for machines like ultra-portable notebooks that do not have a CD drive but can boot from USB media. The main steps are: * Prepare the USB drive * Boot the computer from your USB drive. * Install Ubuntu as you would from a normal boot CD Note: It is highly recommended to use the latest version of Ubuntu to prepare your USB drive. SAM Linux Desktop is a self-booting live CD containing a complete and modern desktop OS. You don´t have to install it on your harddisk to try it (but if you wish - you can), it runs completely from your cd drive and your RAM. Ho ho ho! Merry Christmas! After more than half a year without a new SAM disk we are happy to give you a nice Xmas present: SAM 2008 "claw" release candiate 1. Here is the download: klick We wanted to release it as "final", but after such a long time and so much software updates we call it "rc1". We detected only some minor bugs, so there will be no big changes in the final release. What´s new: - SAM uses the newest XFce 4.4.2 as default desktop - SAM now supports around 60 languages out of the box - SAM comes with proprietary Ati and Nvidia drivers on the live cd, and compiz fusion pre-installed - many packages are updated to their newest versions available at the PCLinuxOS repos - OpenOffice was replaced by Gnome-Office (Abiword+Gnumeric) because of disc space limitations - SAM has a new start menu, a "hacked" menu from LinuxMint - the deskbar applet in combination with the tracker search tool gives you a powerful desktop search Note: if you have problems with non-starting SAM menu and deskbar-applet (after killing X or installing the 3rd party video drivers), run "restart XFce4-panel" from the "system" menu. Beside all this, the biggest change is unquestionable the introduction of our own package repositories, basically a slimmed down copy of the PCLinuxOS software source (thanx to Texstar for uncomplicated permission!), enhanced with some new built and some SAM-patched packages. This gives us the possibility to avoid conflicts with PCLOS releated software (i.e. theme packs) and also to make it a bit more easy for normal persons to "not destroy" their SAM desktop by installing the wrong programs (i.e. Nautilus, KDE stuff...). Advanced users who wanna have all the PCLinuxOS packages available still can use the PCLinuxOS software repositories, but wont get full support by our team (because WE use our own sources too). Again many thanks to Texstar and his team at PCLinuxOS and of course to MandrivaLinux for the great work and Server4You for the free server. Now let me come to an end, I wish you all the best and a happy new year, much fun with SAM - and don´t forget the feedback! Hafe fun, Nico
