MichaelMoore.com | Concentric Sky

by karlcow

With such a large amount of content, searchability was essential. For this we built a custom technology stack based on Solr, Lucene and Haystack. Then, to keep all the previous links pointing in the right direction, we created a customizable scheme of Django regular expressions and Apache mod_rewrites.

jessenoller.com - Django, mod_wsgi, Apache and OS X – do it.

whut_2.jpgSo, I’m one of those people where I don’t like running things “too far” from what a production setup might look like (I code on OS/X, deploy to Linux). This is why I jump(ed) through various hoops on my OS X system to get Apache/Django/mod_wsgi/etc all up and running and happy (not for serving the site; just developing).

WSGI makes us faster, simpler, nicer! « DevjaVu Blog

by nhoizey
With mod_php you can assume that if Apache is up, the app is up. [...] mod_wsgi, boasted faster performance than mod_python, and was easier to configure. I realized Trac had WSGI support. Pages are loading almost twice as fast! Our setup is simpler too.

YouTube Scalability et Python

by karlcow
YouTube uses Apache for FastCGI serving. (I wonder if things would have been easier for them had they chosen nginx, which is apparently wonderful for FastCGI and less problematic than Lighttpd) YouTube is coded mostly in Python. Why? “Development speed critical”. They use psyco, Python -> C compiler, and also C extensions, for performance critical work. They use Lighttpd for serving the video itself, for a big improvement over Apache.
