The notion of Companions is intended as both a research program and an immediately useful and striking technology: that of a computational but persistent personal presence. Aujourd’hui, une nouvelle société, MyCyberTwin, s’attaque à la création de “jumeaux numériques”. Il s’agit bien évidemment là aussi d’avatars, de “chatterbots” avec lesquels on peut causer en ligne. La nouveauté est que jusqu’ici, les différents services de création de bots demandaient à l’utilisateur une certaine connaissance de la programmation, notamment du langage AIML (Artificial Intelligence Markup Language). Certains services, comme Pandorabots, ont bien essayé de simplifier la création de ces personnages, mais leurs tentatives étaient restées accessibles surtout à quelques geeks.

Je m'intéresse à l'intelligence artificielle ainsi qu'aux programmes de réponse automatique (chatterbots). J'effectue des travaux dans ce domaine, où j'ai actuellement des projets en cours.

Le but du projet "Betabot" est de créer un chatterbot capable d'apprendre tout et n'importe quoi suivant la logique de son éducateur. Par exemple, il doit être possible de lui apprendre n'importe quel langage, que ce soit le français, l'anglais, n'importe quelle langue (même des langages inventés). L'intelligence artificielle interviendra plus tard et permettra entre autre de simuler des raisonements, des décisions, des choix ... sur les réponses à fournir à l'interlocuteur.

This paper describes the development of one such Turing System, including the technical design of the program and its performance on the first three Loebner Prize competitions. We also discuss the program's four year development effort, which has depended heavily on constant interaction with people on the Internet via Tinymuds (multiuser network communication servers that are a cross between role-playing games and computer forums like CompuServe). Finally, we discuss the design of the Loebner competition itself, and address its usefulness in furthering the development of Artificial Intelligence.
