至於文章標題中說的 Portable GIMP，是 John Haller 製作的可攜式 GIMP，這個月剛推出。所謂可攜式軟體，指的是只要將所有檔案複製到硬碟、外接硬碟、隨身碟或光碟上，免安裝就可以直接使用的軟體。有了這些軟體，你只要一個隨身碟（如果要裝的軟體比較多，又要同時裝資料，容量得稍微大一點）或外接硬碟，在任何電腦上你都能用自己熟悉的軟體工作。 經由 John Haller 修改成為可攜式軟體的，除了 Portable GIMP，還有辦公室軟體 Portable OpenOffice.org、即時傳訊軟體 Portable GAIM 和 Portable Miranda IM、網頁瀏覽器 Portable Firefox、電子郵件軟體 Portable Thunderbird、網頁編輯器 Portable NVU、檔案傳輸軟體 Portable FileZilla 及其他許多好用的軟體。 這些軟體當然也都是免費的，您可以從 PortableApps.com 網站自由下載。
