Simple jQuery Spy Effect | jQuery for Designers - Tutorials and screencasts

by 3 others
The great thing about Realmac's QuickSnapper site is that if JavaScript is turned off, the list of snaps is visible by default. So we'll follow suit. It's also worth noting that their version only keep pulling in new items until it hits the end. I'll show you how you can keep the list looping, and in a follow up tutorial I'll show you how to hook this in to an Ajax hit that doesn't hammer your server and keeps the effect nice and smooth.

jQuery.popeye - an inline lightbox alternative | Christoph Schüßler » Informationsarchitektur und so

by 4 others (via)
The plugin transforms an unoredered list of images into a box displaying only one preview image at a time. The box has controls to skim through the preview images and to enlarge a given image. The box expands to accomodate the enlarged version, while the controls are hidden in full image size mode. A simple click on the image returns the box to its compact state. The compact box has fixed, automatically calculated dimensions. The widht and height are calculated so that all thumbnail images are cropped to the smallest width and height in the set and centered resulting image area (stage).

HOWTO: Compile the latest ffmpeg and x264 from source - Ubuntu Forums

by 1 other
ffmpeg is a versatile video tool used to encode and convert a multitude of video and audio formats. x264 is a library used to encode H264 video and creates excellent looking video usually superior to xvid and other popular codecs. x264 is used by Avidemux, GordianKnot, VLC Player, MEncoder, and Handbrake. Although ffmpeg and x264 are available in the Ubuntu repositories, you may need to compile from source. For example, the ffmpeg-user mailing list requires that you use the latest ffmpeg svn before asking for help. Since ffmpeg and x264 are updated frequently, you may also like to have the bleeding-edge for encoding videos. Also, ffmpeg in the Ubuntu repository may not support all of the codecs and formats that you may need

Additions to a default Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex install — Lone-Wolf Scripts

Last Ubuntu versions enable you to install software by clicking on a link in your browser. If you want to install only some of the software list in this page, you can do it by simply clicking on the links put on the packages' names. This is not a security breach, since these packages are installed using apt-get and your configured repositories. It's only a little helper for lazy people :D

Linux.com :: Parallel SSH execution and a single shell to control them all

(via)
Many people use SSH to log in to remote machines, copy files around, and perform general system administration. If you want to increase your productivity with SSH, you can try a tool that lets you run commands on more than one remote machine at the same time. Parallel ssh, Cluster SSH, and ClusterIt let you specify commands in a single terminal window and send them to a collection of remote machines where they can be executed. Why you would need a utility like this when, using openSSH, you can create a file containing your commands and use a bash for loop to run it on a list of remote hosts, one at a time? One advantage of a parallel SSH utility is that commands can be run on several hosts at the same time. For a short-running task this might not matter much, but if a task needs an hour to complete and you need to run it on 20 hosts, parallel execution beats serial by a mile. Also, if you want to interactively edit the same file on multiple machines, it might be quicker to use a parallel SSH utility and edit the file on all nodes with vi rather than concoct a script to do the same edit. Many of these parallel SSH tools include support for copying to many hosts at once (a parallel version of scp) or using rsync on a collection of hosts at once. Because the parallel SSH implementations know about all the hosts in a group, some of them also offer the ability to execute a command "on one host" and will work out which host to pick using load balancing. Finally, some parallel SSH projects let you use barriers so that you can execute a collection of commands and explicitly have each node in the group wait until all the nodes have completed a stage before moving on to the next stage of processing.

A Primer for OpenID with PHP | dev.aol.com | The AOL Developer Network

by 2 others
OpenID is another one of those "cool technologies you've never heard of" type of deals. OpenID is an open source initiative that provides a way for Web users to register their identity in one place and then use that identity anywhere on the Web that supports OpenID. This means that, as a user, you don't have to keep creating (and remembering) new user names and passwords at every site you visit. And, as a service provider, you can identify and authenticate users that show up at your site without having to do all of the user management involved in giving them access. The list of services that support OpenID is growing, but not as fast as it should be given how cool and useful OpenID is. Hopefully, this article will help with that. The idea behind OpenID is fairly simple: a Web user can get an ID from an OpenID provider and use that ID to access any Web application or service that supports OpenID.

klauskomenda.com » Collection of Web Developer Tools, per Browser

With so many browser out there in the wild, working as a Web Developer certainly is not an easy job these days. Thankfully, over the last years, decent tools have been developed by bright people that make developing and debugging of code easier for the developer. But sometimes, it is not easy to keep track which tools are at a Developer’s disposal (and which are actually usable). The following article seeks to list the best tools available and quickly describing how to activate/install/use them.

Scott Jehl, Designer/Developer, Boston, MA | Process: StyleMap v2: Visual Sitemap

by 1 other (via)
StyleMap v2 uses valid HTML, CSS and a touch of DOM scripting to produce a visual sitemap out of an unordered list (UL). The result is a functional, scalable, and above-all rapid way to produce a tree-style map for the planning stages of your project. Keep in mind that although we'll cover the details of how the sitemap works, in practice you'll only need to worry about changing the markup to match your website structure. The CSS and Javascript can then be added as they are and will take care of the rest!

galleria - Google Code

by 3 others (via)
Galleria is a javascript image gallery written in jQuery. It loads the images one by one from an unordered list and displays thumbnails when each image is loaded. It will create thumbnails for you if you choose so, scaled or unscaled, centered and cropped inside a fixed thumbnail box defined by CSS. The core of Galleria lies in it's smart preloading behaviour, snappiness and the fresh absence of obtrusive design elements. Use it as a foundation for your custom styled image gallery.

Bordures uniquement entre des éléments - css - nanoum blog

by 1 other

by 10 others (via)
