Here’s a great example of how a seemingly noble social media donation campaign can go awry: Microsoft tweeted two hours ago on the Bing search engine’s Twitter account that it would donate up to $100,000 to help victims of Japan’s earthquake — but only if Twitter users retweeted its original post to broadcast it to their followers, at $1 per retweet.

(CNET) — Apple says that it has sold more than 2 million iPads since the device debuted April 3rd. It’s safe to assume that the vast majority of those sales came from the U.S. market, as the iPad only just went on sale last weekend in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland, and the U.K. Apple didn’t say how many iPads were sold internationally.

The iPhone’s popularity in Japan just keeps growing. Apple’s handset has grabbed 72 percent of the smartphone market on the gadget-obsessed island nation.
