The Web 2.0 Dev PHP Framewok
by kasi77 & 1 other (via)Gone are the days of coding entire PHP apps from scratch. These are the 5 forerunners for the next generation of PHP frameworks. Each one of these frameworks has some foreword thinking quality that sets them apart from the PHP frameworks of yesterday. Many of these are a response to the recent Ruby on Rails, rapid application development hype, and some, like PHP on Trax is a direct port of Ruby on Rails. Of the frameworks listed below, I have learned AGAVI as well as Symfony. I can honestly say I don’t have the desire to build a PHP app from scratch ever again. These frameworks make it so easy to get started and have a working app you’ll want to create apps just for the hell of it.

Oracle, Creator of PHP? - The Pimp
by kasi77There is rumours relayed by The Register about Oracle acquisitions plan, it is a quite surprising to see Zend in the list. Note that the text is not clear, but whether it is true or not, the scenario is interesting enough to think about the impacts in the PHP world.

tbsOOo : TinyButStrong OOo

By cleverly using these two components, and with minimal typing, I will try and show you how you can bypass the usual steps of parsing GET parameters, performing SQL requests, and generating HTML content.

Zend Technologies - PECL Tutorials - Introducing Service Data Objects for PHP
by nhoizey (via)Service Data Objects (SDOs) have been around in the Java technology world since November 2003. They are designed as a means of simplifying and unifying working with heterogeneous data sources. In February 2005, IBM and Zend announced a strategic partnership to collaborate on the development and support of the PHP environment. One aspect of this collaboration has been the definition and implementation of SDOs for PHP. This article gives an overview of SDOs and the motivations for using them in the PHP environment. A simple contact management scenario is used to illustrate key concepts.

by nhoizey & 1 other (via)If you use JPSpan to augment a normal website you may have noticed that your page loads now take quite a bit longer. The reason for this is loading the JPSpan client javascript code, its generated on each load and so it can’t be cached on the client.
