Microsoft Office Outlook Team Blog : The Power of Word in Outlook

This morning we became aware of a Twitter campaign run from the website http://fixoutlook.org. This campaign is intended to provide Microsoft with feedback about our decision to continue to use Microsoft Word for composing and displaying e-mail in the upcoming release of Microsoft Outlook 2010. The Email Standards Project, which developed the website that promotes the current Twitter campaign, is backed by the maker of “email marketing campaign” software.

Microsoft has confirmed they plan on using the Word rendering engine to display HTML emails in Outlook 2010.
This means for the next 5 years your email designs will need tables for layout, have no support for CSS like float and position, no background images and lots more. Want proof? Here’s the same email in Outlook 2000 & 2010.

La version 2007 d'Outlook introduit en effet un changement radical qui concerne le moteur de rendu utilisé pour l'affichage des emails reçus au format HTML. Si jusqu'à présent Outlook utilisait le moteur de rendu d'Internet Explorer, ce qui le mettait loin devant ses concurrents comme Eudora ou Lotus Notes en matière de rendu des emails HTML, Outlook 2007 utilise... Word !
