The numbers are written using exponential notation. This is a convenient way scientists use to write very large or very small numbers.

Dan Meyer, a math teacher from Santa Cruz, CA. Dan used a videos of himself doing various things to teach graphing to his algebra students. The premise is simple: cross an arched bridge; descend a flight of stairs; all within a time frame that the students are shown. What would the graph of that look like in terms of elevation change over time? The lesson, which is downloadable, including the videos, is detailed at his blog here. Kakuro - Cross Sums

Hot on the heels of Sudoku comes Kakuro. Think of them as the mathematical equivalent of crosswords. Also known as Cross Sums or Kakro in Japan . A Kakuro consists of a playing area of filled and empty cells similar to a crossword puzzle. Some black cells contain a diagonal slash from top left to bottom right with numbers in them, called "the clues". A number in the top right corner relates to an "across" clue and one in the bottom left a "down" clue.
