Frigate s'utilise en remplacement de l'explorateur de fichiers Windows. Il propose une interface à deux panneaux (un classique du côté des explorateurs alternatifs) et reprend le concept des onglets popularisés par les navigateurs Internet. Ces deux principes simplifient beaucoup la navigation et la gestion des fichiers puisque l'on peut glisser des éléments d'un panneau à l'autre.
