What's Next?

by 1 other (via)
What's Next is a personal productivity application that supports David Allen's Getting Things Done system, or GTD. We created What's Next to give us an environment in which to be effortlessly productive - it has been designed to offer a great user interface and generally be a joy to use. What's Next has been designed and written by Max Muermann. The application works under Mac OS X, Windows, various Unix- and Linux-variants. It is a browser-based application that comes with a small local web server. "It is just so easy to use that I was up and running in no time at all and everything made sense." - That's what Scott said. Have a look at the screenshots below, or head straight over to the download section and grab the latest version!

poocs.net—Assorted ramblings and Rails notes

I was recently sent a copy of Patrick Lenz’s Build Your Own Ruby on Rails Web Applications, published by SitePoint. While I am certainly not in its target audience, I still found the book’s style refreshing, and even learned something about Rails I didn’t know before!

Ruby on Rails and J2EE: Is there room for both?

by 1 other
Ruby on Rails is a relatively new Web application framework built on the Ruby language. It is billed as an alternative to existing enterprise frameworks, and its goal, in a nutshell, is to make your life -- or at least the Web development aspects of it -- easier. In this article, Aaron Rustad compares and contrasts some of the key architectural features of Rails and traditional J2EE frameworks.

ONLamp.com -- Rolling with Ruby on Rails Revisited

by 2 others
Maybe you've heard about Ruby on Rails, the super productive new way to develop web applications, and you'd like to give it a try, but you don't know anything about Ruby or Rails. That's how the original version of Rolling with Ruby on Rails, published almost two years ago now, began. And it was true. Ruby on Rails (Rails for short) was super productive and it was super fun, too! A community of contributors grew up around it to make it even more productive and more fun! Rails has been growing fast. It has capabilities that you have to see to believe!!! That's what we're here for. Like the original version, this tutorial will show you how to develop a web-based, database-driven application using Ruby on Rails. Also like the original, it will not teach you how to program in Ruby. On the other hand, if you already know another object-oriented programming language, you should have no problem following along (and at the end you can find links on learning Ruby and lots more).

Putting FlexPaint on Rails

(via)
just got done adding another sample app to the Flex RoR SDK that I have been working on with Mike Potter. Basically, all I did was take the FlexPaint app created by James Ward and replace the Java back end with Ruby on Rails back end. I also added a simple interface for adding an image to the canvas (see below), so that you can draw on it. This sample app uses both WEBOrb and regular ole’ HTTP calls to integrate Flex with Rails.
