If you want the images to be a part of a gallery, just add the gallery name in braket. Tested and working in Firefox 2-3 (Mac/PC), Safari 3.1.1 (Mac), IE 6-7. Uncompressed version - script: 16kb / CSS: 8kb, compressed size - script: 8kb / CSS: 3.8kb.

The best resource I've found is the W3C Validator. You can point it to a particular URL, upload an HTML file, or post HTML content in its Direct Input field. Click the "Check" button. You'll either find a congratulatory message, or a detailed list of HTML flaws, with line numbers, detailed description of the problems, and very clear tips about fixing them.
