Falcon-AO, a prominent component of Falcon, is an automatic ontology matching system that helps actualize interoperability between (Semantic) Web applications that use different but related ontologies. Recently, it has become a very practical and popular choice for matching Web ontologies expressed by RDF(S) and OWL. Falcon-AO is implemented in Java, and presently, it is an open source project under the Apache 2.0 license.

The D2RQ Platform uses these mapping to enables applications to access a RDF-view on a non-RDF database through the Jena and Sesame APIs, as well as over the Web via the SPARQL Protocol and as Linked Data.

Image Annotation on the Semantic Web

Many applications that process multimedia assets make use of some form of metadata that describe the multimedia content. The goals of this document are to explain the advantages of using Semantic Web languages and technologies for the creation, storage, manipulation, interchange and processing of image metadata. In addition, it provides guidelines for Semantic Web-based image annotation, illustrated by use cases. Relevant RDF and OWL vocabularies are discussed, along with a short overview of publicly available tools.

L'intérêt principal du couple RDF/OWL est qu'il structure l'information en levant l'ambiguïté et la complexité des champs d'une base de données. Auparavant, la structure des données - l'intelligence que reflète ces mêmes données- reposait sur le bon vouloir du seul administrateur, à travers la création de champs. Par exemple, une famille pouvait être traduite par une colonne ID "père" puis une colonne ID "mère". Une méthode compréhensible uniquement par les francophones et les administrateurs. Avec OWL, on peut par exemple caractériser le lien de filiation.

SchemaWeb is a place for developers and designers working with RDF. It provides a comprehensive directory of RDF schemas to be browsed and searched by human agents and also an extensive set of web services to be used by software agents that wish to obtain real-time schema information whilst processing RDF data.
RDF Schemas are the critical layer of the Semantic Web. They provide the semantic linkage that 'intelligent' software needs to extract value giving information from the raw data defined by RDF triples.

Bien qu’elle ait été lancée par le W3C dés 1998, l’initiative du Web sémantique [1] reste encore aujourd’hui marginale face aux problématiques courantes du Web, comme par exemple la publication de contenu. Pourtant, le WS est déjà riche de nombreux langages et outils qui peuvent trouver leur place au sein de l’entreprise, et améliorer la manière dont celle-ci traite, organise et publie ses données.
