Kubuntu and Ubuntu are not meant to be seen as distinct projects; Kubuntu is part of the Ubuntu project, and they are both part of one development team that contributes to the whole. Kubuntu is Ubuntu with a different default setup, the Ubuntu CD contains only GNOME as a desktop environment; the Kubuntu CD contains only KDE, this is the primary difference.

Download KOffice Information KOffice is currently available as version 1.6.3 designed to run with KDE 3.3 or later. KOffice is released separately from the rest of KDE, so KOffice releases are not in sync with those of KDE. If you wish to use a newer development version, then you will need to compile from source.

GCC, the GNU Compiler Collection

by tadeufilippini & 1 other
The GNU Compiler Collection includes front ends for C, C++, Objective-C, Fortran, Java, and Ada, as well as libraries for these languages (libstdc++, libgcj,...). We strive to provide regular, high quality releases, which we want to work well on a variety of native and cross targets (including GNU/Linux), and encourage everyone to contribute changes and help testing GCC. Our sources are readily and freely available via SVN and weekly snapshots. Major decisions about GCC are made by the steering committee, guided by the mission statement.

How to install KDE on Ubuntu

by tadeufilippini & 1 other (via)
How to install KDE on Ubuntu Ubuntu's default desktop environment is Gnome. Sometimes people using Ubuntu want to try out KDE as well, though. Warning: having KDE and Gnome together means you'll have cluttered application menus full of KDE applications and Gnome applications. You may also run into some other cosmetic problems (the KDE QT look taking over some of your Gnome themes, a hidden file on your desktop that keeps appearing in Gnome after you've just logged out of KDE). One of the most common problems is the new desktop environment "taking over" the boot splash screen. Here are some instructions to fix that problem. Even though these instructions are for KDE, the same principle applies for adding Gnome to Kubuntu or XFCE to Kubuntu or Ubuntu. Basically, you install the desktop environment, log out, and choose the desktop environment. Note: Some people may tell you to install KDE using Synaptic Package Manager or apt-get. Using aptitude instead will make KDE easier to remove later if you wish to do so.

Linux on the root !

by Léonux & 5 others
