PUBLIC MARKS with tags database & data

Yahoo! has released their WOEID names/relationship database as CC-

BY-3.0:

The GeoPlanet Data does not contain any coordinate information, though

Flickr has also released a set of shapefiles as CC0, derived from WOEID

lat/lon geotagged photos:

This seems of interest to GeoNames. It could be cool to have a mapping

of GNIS identifiers to WOEIDs. Would that be within the mission of

GeoNames?

The goal of Swift is to provide an API (for programmers) and data set (for researchers) about an arbitrary set of RSS feeds. Swift is a database and a user interface; we are currently focusing on utilizing the open source freebase.com repository as a central store of our curated data.

In particular, making schema changes or adding indexes to a database with more than 10 - 20 million rows completely locks the database for hours at a time.
