Graded Browser Support Update: Q1 2010 » Yahoo! User Interface Blog (YUIBlog)

by karlcow

Opera: Refer to the Q4 2009 GBS update for a discussion of the decision to move Opera to X-Grade. Worth noting here is that YUI specifically and Yahoo more broadly continue to support Opera — just as we continue to support X-Grade browsers in general. The GBS provides guidance for formulating QA testing matrices, and our recommendation as of Q1 2010 is that Opera be grouped in the X-Grade along with other high-quality, low-marketshare browsers. Opera is an excellent browser — we expect Opera users to have a good experience on Yahoo! sites and YUI-based sites, and we’ll continue to investigate bugs related to Opera as they are identified.

Announcing Kong: A server description and deployment testing tool | Surfing in Kansas

by karlcow

t work we have to manage a ton of Django based sites. Just for our World Company sites, we have over 50 different settings files, and this doesn't take into account the sites that we host for other clients. At this size it becomes basically impossible to test each site in a browser when you push things to production. To solve this problem I have written a very basic server description tool. This allows you to describe sites (settings file, python path, url, etc.) and servers.

Test-After Development is not Test-Driven Development

by karlcow & 1 other

Test-Driven Development is first and foremost an application design methodology. If you write your unit tests after you write your application code, then you are not driving the design of your application with your unit tests. In other words, Test-After Development ignores the Driven in Test-Driven Development.

Watir: Web Application Testing in Ruby

by HandySolo & 7 others
WATIR stands for "Web Application Testing in Ruby". Watir is a free, open-source functional testing tool for automating browser-based tests of web applications. It is pronounced water.<br /> <br /> Watir drives the Internet Explorer browser the same way people do. It clicks links, fills in forms, presses buttons. Watir also checks results, such as whether expected text appears on the page.<br /> <br /> Watir is a Ruby library that works with Internet Explorer on Windows. Like other powerful programming languages, Ruby gives you the power to connect to databases, read data files, export XML and structure your code into reusable libraries.
